"Sanuki Udon" |
I would like to introduce "Sanuki Udon" which is very popular to eat out in Tokyo, now days.
"Udon" means noodle and "Sanuki Udon" is a noodle where is originally from southern part of Japan called "Kagawa" of "Shikoku Island".
The soup is clear and just a little bit sweet. The noodle gives very good taste and feeling when you chew! Now a lot of people are going crazy over this noodle!
"Hanamaru Udon"The another reason of why "Sanuki Udon" is getting so popular in Tokyo is because the shops which serve "Sanuki Udon" for 100 YEN, opened in many parts of Tokyo and are still planned to be opened more. "Hanamaru Udon" is the one of the shops and I went to "Hanamaru Udon - Takada no Baba Shop" to see if their "Sanuki Udon" taste really good with the reasonable price and how popular the shop is.

How to order -- They serve with self service
1. Pick up the back tray |
2. At the counter, you order what you want to eat. (You can just point whichever looks good on the menu) |
3. After ordering, the young fellow will serve you a noodle with soup |

This is what I got (The medium size of "Kake-Udon" with hot soup) |

These are what my friend got ("Bu-kkake Udon" and "Curry Udon") |
4. At the next corner, if you want any toppings for your noodle, you can choose them from the shell. There are many kinds of "tempura" for 90 to 120 yen per piece, "Korokke" (Fried mashed potatoes) or Rice balls to go with your noodle also.
5. So, I picked tempura of shrimp and squid. (Each of them was 120 yen)
6. Finally, there is a casher so you pay for everything you ordered or picked. I paid 440 yen for the "Kake-Udon" (200Yen for the medium size of "Kake-udon" and 240 yen for two toppings) and my friend paid 280 yen for the small size of "Bu-kkake Udon" and 380 yen for the small size of "Curry Udon". |
My opinion To be honest, everything tasted very good with the price! The best among what we ate that night was "Bu-kkake Udon" which my friend ordered. It is served as cold and eat with the sauce made out of soy sauce, white radish, welsh onion and lemon. It tasted really good!!!

MenuAll the menus are listed outside and inside of the shop. Unfortunately, it is all written in Japanese but it has pictures for all the menus. Only the small size of original menu "Kake-Udon" (without toppings) is priced 100 YEN and other menus are priced anywhere from 180 yen or 280 yen for small sizes. There are also combination menus with noodles such as "Curry Rice", "Inari Sushi", "Roll Sushi", "Bara Sushi" and "Rice Bowl with Beef" For reference: http://www.hanamaruudon.com/menu/index.html(Japanese only but you can see the pictures and prices) |
